Experiences With American Family

Time is very short; It is nearly the time to move in Holmes Student Center: We remain only 2 more nights with our wonderful host family, Patty and Joe. However, it has been a valued time offered by SEAYLP FALL 2010 to learn about American ways of living. Experiencing in homestay with Patty and Joe's family, i found that they are attentive, generous, friendly, patient, and forgiving.

When Arasu, Singaporian and I first moved into their house, they tell us anything in the house.i.e. where the bedroom and restroom are, how to use dishwasher, where we can get things........ They seemed concerned about how to host us, i guess. They seem taking care us lots. They ask us about food we eat every day and we like. "Arasu and Raya! it is your home. Do everything you wanna do." it really touch our heart.

They are so kind that we wanted to visit somewhere, even very far from the house, they still made us happy by bringing us to the target places. When we went to the some malls, they bought us a couple of things for our every meal time. Joe, the husband, often gets up in the early morning to cook rice for me.

Hi, Hello, Good nigt and morning, Did u sleep well last night? are the words i always hear from them. Smiling and asking us, they are so amusing. They are often teasing Arasu and me.

They are so patient. Joe drove his truck from one place to another because of my changes. i remember one night we went to one restaurant but i did not like any food there, so we had to change to any place; but he was not even bored of my unsatisfaction but tried to encourage me to go somewhere else. There are so many things similar to this case, and he showed us he is even-tempered.

The most important thing i found is that Americans and Joe also are forgiving. i raise the case of driving. it is really different from Cambodia society. When people only attempt to walk across the road, American drivers always stop driving and waiting for the pedestrain walk across the road. Joe is the example.

I do appreciate to all what Americans have as the example of Joe and Patty's family. I love it!
